Learn the fundamentals of chip carving in four evenings and come away with everything you need to produce gorgeous designs in your spare time. Chip carving can be used for lettering, simple ornamentation, geometric forms or even stylized, free-form images. After demonstrating the ideas at hand, students will be guided through practice boards starting with the most simple and working toward the more advanced techniques. Finally, each student will choose a design and make a trivet to take home.
During the class, we will cover:
- Tool care, including sharpening
- Technique & Safety
- Working with grain
- Transferring patterns to wood
No prior chip carving (or woodworking) experience is necessary. Students can bring their own tools, and we will have quality chip carving tools available for purchase.
Price does not include a small materials fee (TBD)
